My Books, My Books, My Lovely Books

Hello, Readers! Clevenger here.

So this interesting little dive into Graham and I’s personal preferences will be fun. We wanted to share some more about us as people, and give some insight into who we are.

We’ll be talking about music, television, vacation ideas, money and wishes. But to start… let’s talk about dreams. Specifically, my dream office and dream library. And yes, for me… they are two separate rooms.

I have always wanted my office to be a sanctuary. Filled with gaming books, and dice, and maps. We would set my computer up in a comfortable location, and a TV and/or music system is ready to go. The idea is to give me a space where I can set up to work on my books and gaming, but not take me away from the entertainment that I crave as fuel.

Here in this micro library, I would have a space for fantasy novels that I’m currently inspired by, as well as all the TTRPG books from every edition I could find. Dungeons and Dragons, HERO, Gurps, White Wolf, and others would fill my spaces with the settings and rulesets to play with.

I would have a double door with windows inset and my computer desk would face it so that I could stare out that door and watch my kiddo run by. A large glass window would be at my back, most likely draped closed, so that I can look outside as I would like to. A sofa on the right wall, and a door (possibly disguised as a bookshelf to my left.

And through that door… the library.

Massive, ten to twelve-foot ceilings, a balcony, a spiral staircase, you name it. Deep dark oak shelves line the perimeter, and freestanding eight foot tall shelves stand guard in the center. Hard-back editions (preferably all the same size) of all my favorite authors from multiple genres. Asimov, Eddings, Grafton, Jordan, King, Salvatore, Sanderson, Weeks, Weis and Hickman, and more.

Each shelf has its recessed lights, so that we can see the books. The entire library emits an ambient and warm glow. Ladders are available, and we match the panels of oak in the flooring, everything having that classic wooden texture. I paint the raftered ceiling with frescos of angels, demons, dragons, and other fantasy landscapes.

In the center, two arced and comfortable sofas circle a small coffee table, with lights suspended above it for a comfortable reading area. Plush rugs cushion your feet as you stand and look around. It is an invitation to pick up a book and read.

Well, that’s it. That’s my library.

Next, let’s talk about music!

Until then…

Be Kind,

-Clevenger
